Kirkland Performance Center invites you to experience the magic of Mavis Staples, hailed by NPR as “one of America’s defining voices of freedom and peace.” Staples is the kind of once-in-a-generation artist whose impact on music and culture would be difficult to overstate. She’s a Grammy award winning rhythm and blues and gospel singer, who has been inducted into both the Blues and the Rock and Roll halls of fame. She is civil rights activist, with her band, “The Staple Singers,” being known as the “spiritual and musical voices of the civil rights movement.” Mavis marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., performed at John F. Kennedy’s inauguration, and sang in Barack Obama’s White House.
