Each year, Kirkland, Washington, comes alive with patriotic spirit as locals and visitors gather to celebrate Independence Day at the annual Celebrate Kirkland festival. With its vibrant parade, community feel, and spectacular location on the shores of Lake Washington, this beloved event has become a highlight of summer in the Greater Seattle Area. Let’s take a journey through the festivities of Celebrate Kirkland, showcasing the magic and excitement of this cherished community tradition.
Family-Friendly Activities:
Celebrate Kirkland offers a variety of family-friendly activities and attractions for visitors of all ages to enjoy. This year what is traditionally known as the 'kids pavilion' will be in the Lakeshore Plaza parking lot. This new area is just a few yards away from the traditional pavilion location at Marina Park and allows kids more room to spread out so they can decorate their bikes, trikes, strollers, and wagons! Grab some patriotic giveaways while supplies last.
After decorating, gather up for the kid’s parade. Walk the parade, and wave to the crowd! This shorter parade route will give you plenty of time to then find a good place to be ready to watch the main parade. You can even take selfies with character princesses and superheroes at the Lakeshore Plaza lot from 10:30-11:30 AM and again briefly at the end of the Kids Parade at Park Lane.
Parade:
The festivities kick off in the morning with a colorful parade that winds its way through downtown Kirkland, featuring marching bands, floats, classic cars, and local community groups. Spectators line the streets, waving flags and cheering as the procession passes by, creating a festive atmosphere of joy and camaraderie.
Following the parade, attendees can explore the bustling local businesses, hosting sidewalk sales and inviting visitors inside. Plan early for lunch, as the restaurants fill up quickly after the parade ends.
At Marina Park, families can spread out a blanket and enjoy a picnic by the lake, taking in the scenic views of Lake Washington and the Seattle skyline. The beach area provides ample opportunities for kids to run, play, and splash in the water, making it the perfect destination for a day of family fun.
Celebrate Kirkland is more than just a 4th of July festival, it's a celebration of community, patriotism, and captures the spirit of summer in the Pacific Northwest. From the vibrant parade and the family-friendly activities to the waterfront lounging, this beloved event offers something for everyone to enjoy.
