Ceramics Surface Design Intensive

Alla prima is a translation from Italian meaning “direct, at once”. Direct painting is a method of painting where paints are laid out in one application. It often evokes a more spontaneous finish as seen in many plein air paintings.
In this workshop you will learn to practice this direct painting method, working from observation of seasonal fresh flower arrangements. We will start with compositional and color studies, and progress to a larger compositional piece. The first half of the workshop consists of a lecture and a demo in the morning, and you work and critiques in the afternoon. We will focus on drawing, design, value, color mixing, and paint handling to keep you challenged. Students may work in Oil, Acrylics or other mediums, I will be demoing in Oil.

12pm-1pm Lunch break (bring your own lunch) and Q&A
1-4pm Student work and critique
