Intro to Large-Scale Ceramics

Do you want to make large-scale ceramics, but not sure where to start? This class will go over all of the techniques and skills needed to take your hand-building skills to the next level. The goal of this class is to be able to come away with one larger-scale sculpture and the skills to make as many as you’d like in the future. This course is for those with some basic ceramic and hand-building experience. We will go over basic building techniques, surface design, glazing techniques, as well as provide hands-on help and troubleshooting as needed.
You’ll come away from this workshop with:
Building techniques for medium and large scale ceramics (20"-30")
Tips and tricks for actualizing your designs in ceramics
A completed large piece!
Workshop Schedule Overview:
Day one: go over basics, start first, smaller practice piece (12” tall)
Day two: surface refinement for practice piece, start brainstorming/building large piece
Day three: glaze practice piece, keep building final
Day four: keep building final
Day five: finish up final for the bisque kiln
Day six: glaze final piece

Basic Tool Kits can be purchased at KAC
Some basic tools are available to use in the studio. You may want to buy additional tools as you find your preferred making style. The instructor can provide guidance on what to buy and where to find what you need.
