Paint Like an Expressionist: Make Bold, Intuitive Art
November 29, 2026 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn the core principles of Expressionist painting. The Expressionists believed that painting's highest purpose was not to depict the world, but to reveal inner experience. This workshop is built around that idea. You'll learn how to approach a blank surface the way Expressionist and Dada artists did: through bold, uninhibited mark-making, color choices, and forms. Guided exercises will walk you through each stage of creating an expressive painting from sketch explorations to real-time layering of acrylic paint and other media. Your own intuition will lead you in the process.
This workshop welcomes both beginning painters and experienced artists looking to work in a new way. You'll leave with one completed painting, a clear understanding of Expressionist principles, and a creative process — equal parts technique and self-trust — that you can return to again and again.
All supplies are provided, but feel free to bring any materials that you love.
