This course will introduce students to relief and reduction printmaking using various surfaces including linocut and woodcut. This class is open for both beginners and intermediate level students.
What will you learn? A bit of printmaking history and an introduction to works of some modern printmakers. You will also learn many technical skills, including how to transfer an image onto a linoleum plate, how to register paper, and how to carve and ink a plate to create your image. You will explore color mixing and transparent vs. opaque ink strategies.
Most of all, you will finish the quarter with works of art you create yourself from start to finish! Individual learning is enhanced by our collaborative, supportive and fun print room environment. You will have opportunities for open studio throughout each week of class so that you can develop your growing skills.
