ryan james fine arts Gallery Night
October 17, 2026 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
This October, our Kirkland gallery brings together four artists whose work explores the space between recognition and abstraction, where color, texture, gesture, and form become vehicles for emotional expression. maëry lanahan’s paintings hover between figuration and abstraction, using light, texture, and spatial ambiguity to evoke psychological and emotional states. Through the process of addition and erasure, she creates a tension between clarity and obscurity. Laurie Barmore approaches painting intuitively, allowing color, gesture, and organic forms to guide the work as it develops. William Turner (1940-2021) similarly embraced spontaneity, beginning with chaotic under-paintings and allowing color, movement, and painterly gesture to lead him toward a balance between abstraction and representation. Influenced by the rhythm and improvisational energy of jazz, Turner’s paintings invite viewers into a vibrant collision of color, form, and movement.
Extending this exploration beyond the painted surface, Sculptor Dan Freeman creates works that transform physical material into something more contemplative and imaginative. His sculptures transcend the boundaries of object and experience, inviting viewers to consider the relationship between imagination, reality, and the complexities of human existence.
